Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator

Jayne BlackWelcome to Woodstation!

My name is Jayne Black and I am Woodstation's Title l Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator. My primary role is to support parents and provide information on how you can be fully engaged in your child's education. I encourage you to visit our Family Resource Center (Room 120) to learn about the many ways you can be involved and how to fully participate in your child's education. In the Family Resource Center, we have community, parenting, and educational resources available for you to take home to help your family succeed both in and out of the classroom. I'm committed to making sure all parents have the resources necessary to feel confident communicating with teachers and staff at school. I'm looking forward to an exciting and successful year!

Christmas Giving
The compassion that our parents, teachers, and business partners have for our community was evident this Christmas. Many individuals showed us how caring and generous they are when it comes to taking care of our students and families. Thank you to everyone who helped meet the needs of our students this Christmas. We appreciate you!

Parent Cafe - January 9 at 11:00 a.m.
We would like you to join us for our county wide Parent Cafe Meeting on January 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Catoosa Learning Center. You will learn how to determine your child's learning style and how this can help homework time go more efficiently. This is also an opportunity to give us your input on our Title l policies, program, and budget. Parents from all of our Title l schools will come together and learn, share ideas, and give feedback. All parents are invited! Brunch is included. Please RSVP to Jayne Black ( or call the school at (706) 935-6700.

Keeping Track of Student Progress
By staying on top of how your child is doing at school, you can support his/her achievements and quickly address any problems that arise. Try these helpful strategies to keep yourself engaged in your child’s education:

   • Go over papers – Look at each graded assignment that comes home in your child’s Wednesday folder. This is an easy way to see what your child is doing well, and what he/she needs to work on.
   • Use Parent Portal- Parent Portal is an electronic way for parents to stay connected to their child's progress in the classroom. Teachers use this application to enter assignments and grades. As your child moves up into higher elementary grades, middle, and high school, it becomes a very useful tool to monitor your child's progress in the classroom. There is an easy sign-up process consisting of filling out some paper work. If you would like to sign up for an account, just stop by the school office!
   • Communicate with your child’s teacher – Contact the teacher if your child says a subject is difficult, or you notice low grades. Ask the teacher for ways you can help at home, or schedule a parent-teacher conference. If your teacher knows your child is struggling, they can help at school and suggest ideas for helping your child at home.

Family and School Team (FAST) Parent-Teacher Conference Week - February 3-7
We will be hosting Family and School Team (FAST) conferences February 3-7. Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher one-on-one and learn about your child’s academic progress and how to practice skills at home.

We Want to Keep You In the Know!
We want parents to be an active part in decision making at WES. We want you to know that as a parent of a child attending a Title l school, you have the right to request any meetings you feel are necessary at any time by contacting Jayne Black, Family Engagement Coordinator at or (706) 935-6700. We are committed to providing opportunities for parents to attend regular meetings to formulate suggestions, share experiences, and participate in decisions related to the education of your child. To learn more about our Title l Parent and Family Engagement Program, check out our school policy on the WES website or in the Family Resource Center. We would love to hear your feedback and suggestions.

We Want Your Input!
If you have any input or suggestions for our Family Engagement Program or our Title l Budget, please be sure to let us know your suggestions! This year we are spending our Title l funds on salaries for our Academic Coach and Family Engagement Coordinator. Part of the budget also goes toward supplies and materials for family engagement workshops. Title l budget information can be found on the Title l page of our school website. For more information about how we spend our Title l funds, please review our Annual Meeting and PAC presentations and meeting minutes on the school website and fill out an Input Card with your suggestions. We want to hear from you!
