Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator

Parent Involvement Main Page Image

Welcome to Woodstation!

My name is Jayne Black and I am the WES Title l Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator. My primary role is to support parents and provide information on how you can be fully engaged in your child's education. I encourage you to visit our Family Resource Center (Room 120) to learn about the many ways you can be involved and how to fully participate in your child's education. There are community, parenting, and educational resources available for you to take home to help your family succeed both in and out of the classroom. I'm committed to making sure all parents have the resources necessary to feel confident communicating with teachers and staff at school. I'm looking forward to an exciting and successful year!

Parent-Teacher Conference Week - February 26-March 2 (Please Note Date Change)

WES will be hosting our spring conference week to make sure all students are on track for the second half of our school year. Parents will receive individualized student data at their conference and tips from the teacher to ensure student progress. Be on the lookout for more information coming home in the Wednesday folder. Remember to communicate with your child's teacher any time you have questions or concerns. If the teacher knows your child is struggling, they can help at school and suggest ways to practice at home.

March 16 - Fifth Grade Transition to Middle School Breakfast 7:00 a.m.

All 5th grade parents, guardians, and students are invited to attend this special breakfast. Heritage Middle School Principal, Mr. Lusk, will speak to families to help them prepare for middle school. He will explain schedules, classes, academic expectations, lockers, and much more! Information about 6th grade standards, and how to help your child be successful at middle school will be available. PTO will provide a light breakfast. We hope you will join us!

Georgia Milestones Parent Information Workshop - March 20, 6:00 p.m.

This workshop is for parents of students in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade. Students in grades 3-5 will be taking Georgia Milestones Assessments April 23-27. The teachers have been working hard in the classroom to make sure your student is prepared for testing. This workshop is a great time to get some tips about what you can do at home to make sure your child has a smooth testing week. Information about the test components, scoring, and testing dates will be covered. Please mark your calendar now for this important meeting!

Family Resource Center Book Check-Out

Our Family Resource Center (Room 120) lending library has parenting resources available for check-out. These include parenting books, brochures on academic topics, and books and activities for children. You are welcome to borrow these resources to use at home and return them when you're finished. The Family Resource Center is also a place for volunteers to gather and connect with each other. We'd love for you to stop by!

Self Esteem Matters!

Children with high self esteem feel loved and develop into happy and productive adults. Here are some ways parents can help improve their child's self esteem:

  • Give children choices and let them decide the best option.
  • Let your child know perfection is not expected.
  • Assign age appropriate chores to give your child a sense of pride and accomplishment.
  • Spend one-on-one time with your child and let your child know you value this time together.
